Oak Contracting’s President, Douglas W. Eder Named Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2010 Award Finalist in Maryland

TOWSON, MD (May 5, 2010) – Oak Contracting’s President, Doug Eder, has been selected as a finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2010 Award in the Maryland Region. According to Ernst & Young LLP, the awards program recognizes entrepreneurs who demonstrate extraordinary success in the areas of innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities. Doug was selected as a finalist by a panel of independent judges. Award winners will be announced at a special gala event on June 18, 2010 at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront.

Mid-Atlantic Construction – Top Contractors

TOWSON, MD (April 1, 2010) – Despite the recession, 2009 proved to be a banner year for Oak Contracting of Towson, Md., as revenue increased to $164 million from $91 million in 2008.

Oak Contracting to Oversee Herbert Hoover Middle School Modernization

TOWSON, MD (February 25, 2010) – Montgomery County Public Schools has selected Oak Contracting as for the $40-million Herbert Hoover Middle School modernization project. The existing school will be completely demolished and recycled with the exception of a 20,000 SF addition built ten years ago. The new school is being designed by Moseley Architects and will be modeled in 3D using Building Information Modeling software. The design phase is expected to continue through early 2011, at which time it will go out to bid.

Oak Adopts Local Family for Christmas

(December 30, 2009) – For the fifth straight year, Oak Contracting has adopted a local family for the holiday season. As opposed to giving gifts to fellow employees, conducting a Secret Santa exchange, or even making a cash donation to a charity, the employees at Oak Contracting, or “Oakies” as referred to internally, decided five years ago to adopt a local family in need.

ACE Mentor Program Student Team Goes on Fieldtrip

FREDERICK, MD (December 30, 2009) – Joe Dattoli, Frederick County Public Schools Director of Construction Management, recently hosted “Team Linganore” of the ACE (Architecture, Construction, and Engineering) Mentor Program Frederick. The student team is participating in a national competition to “design the ideal school.” The field trip to the construction site of the new Linganore High School provided insight into the design and construction process, revealing issues that the typical user – students and teachers – would not be aware of. Team member, Andrew Manny, said of the trip, “I learned a lot about things we will have to consider in our design, such as HVAC locations and fireproofing methods. We all took plenty of notes and we have a better understanding of what goes into school construction. All in all, it was a really neat experience.”

Frederick County Board of Education Approves Constructability Review Contract

TOWSON, MD (October 30, 2009) – Earlier this week the Frederick County Board of Education approved an indefinite quantity contract for construction plan constructability review services. Oak Contracting was among four firms selected to review plans intended primarily for general contractor projects. Projects may include construction of new school and administrative buildings, renovation projects, addition projects, or systemic projects including mechanical, plumbing, electrical, restoration and maintenance renovations.

GEEF Recognizes Community Partners, Teachers

HARFORD COUNTY, MD (October 30, 2009) – The Greater Edgewood Education Foundation (GEEF) recognized 17 businesses and organizations with Collaborative Partnership awards, with eight of those receiving special recognition for supporting the organization since its inception in 2004. Six Edgewood educators were also honored as Everyday Heroes.

Oak Awarded Bellows Spring Elementary School Expansion

(October 22, 2009) – Oak Contracting was recently selected by Howard County Public Schools to serve in their pool of qualified construction managers. Oak’s first assignment under this contract is the expansion of Bellows Spring Elementary School in Ellicott City, which originally opened in 2003. The expansion calls for four new classrooms and associated support spaces, the addition of art and music rooms, a 1000 SF expansion to the cafetorium, a PE activities room, a Assistant Principal Office, a COMAR/MSDE approved health suite, 100 additional parking spaces, replacement of the existing non-maintainable HVAC-ATC system, and the investigation of making necessary upgrades to the school’s energy star ratings to improve energy use by 20%.
