Groundbreaking on the new $100 million Edgewood High and Deerfield Elementary Schools

(June 3, 2008) - At 10am this morning, Harford County Public Schools officially broke ground on the new $100 million Edgewood High School campus, which includes Edgewood Middle and Deerfield Elementary Schools. The existing high school and elementary school will be completely replaced with brand new facilities.

Site work officially began on April 1st and includes work for all three schools. Existing water and sewer lines will be relocated and storm retention ponds installed in preparation for the new buildings. A new utility duct bank will be installed this summer that will provide new power and telecommunications supply for the campus, which, by summer of 2010, will include five schools. Elementary and high school students will start the 2010-11 school year in the new buildings. Demo will start on the existing elementary school once school ends in June 2010. Part of the old school needs to be removed in order to gain access to the new school. Demolition and reinstallation of athletic fields will continue through 2011 when the project is completed.

State and local officials attended the groundbreaking including Dr. Jacqueline C. Haas, Superintendent of Schools; Thomas L. Fidler, Jr., Board of Education President; Larissa I. Santos, Edgewood High School Principal; Celeste Klima, Deerfield Elementary School Principal; David R. Craig, County Executive; along with many others.
