Rite of Dedication of St. Peter the Apostle in Libertytown

(September 8, 2008) - Archbishop O'Brien and other prominent clergy were in Libertytown yesterday to officially dedicate St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church. Just over four years ago, the church was severely damaged in an accidental fire that was ignited during a roof repair. Part of the historical façade and steeple tower were salvaged and incorporated into the design of the newly expanded facility, designed by Rubeling and Associates.

The Rite of Dedication began at the front door of the church where Al Rubeling from Rubeling and Associates presented the Archbishop with the architectural plans of the church followed by Ron Long, Superintendent for Oak Contracting, presenting the construction documents (see photo below). Finally, Chuck O'Connor, chairman of the Building Committee, and Mike Riley, president of the Pastoral Council, presented Archbishop O'Brien with the keys to the new church. The Archbishop then proceeded to call upon Monsignor John to open the doors and invited those assembled to enter the new church for the remainder of the dedication and mass.
