(October 28, 2008) - At 3pm this afternoon, Frederick County Public Schools officially broke ground on the new $66 million Linganore High School. Construction started over the summer after school let out with the demolition of the existing school. Footers and slabs are currently being installed for the new 266,046 SF state-of-the-art facility.
State and local officials attended the groundbreaking including Dr. Linda Burgee, Superintendent of Schools; Daryl Boffman, Board of Education President; Margaret Lyburn, Linganore High School Principal; Jan Gardner, Board of County Commissioners President; Gloria Mikolajczyk, Maryland School Architect; along with many others.
The new school is being constructed on the existing 50.3 acre site and is scheduled to open in August 2010. At that time, the Linganore Lancers will move back into their school after utilizing the new Oakdale High School during construction. The new school, designed by Grimm + Parker Architects, will feature state-of-the-art science labs, gymnasium, 740-seat auditorium, and media center.
