TOWSON, MARYLAND (April 1, 2009) - The 411 students currently enrolled in the 1967-era Germantown Elementary School in Annapolis, MD are slated to get a brand new facility on their campus. Oak Contracting, LLC was selected by Anne Arundel County Public Schools to serve as construction manager on the project, which will break ground in 2010. The new school is being designed by Grimm + Parker Architects and will look substantially similar to Nantucket Elementary School, which opened in 2008 in Crofton, MD, and was designed and constructed by the same team.
The new Germantown Elementary School will be situated in the southwest corner of the existing site adjacent to the current community center. While still in the early phases of design, the new school is expected to be about 75,000 square feet and house approximately 500 students. Once open for the 2012-13 school year, the existing facility will be renovated and turned into the new community center. Plans for the current community center are undecided.
