Dave Toth, LEED® AP Title: Superintendent
Born and raised in the small town of Loretto, PA, about 70 miles east of Pittsburg, Dave never thought he'd being building school facilities for one of the leading construction management firms in Baltimore. As fate would have it, though, Dave acquired a set of values from his family that would prove a perfect fit with his role as Superintendent at Oak Contracting – a passion for working hard and a strong sense of teamwork.
Being a team player was instilled in Dave from the day he was born. Growing up with four older brothers, an older sister, and three younger brothers left no other choice then to work together as a team. The Toth family resided in a 19th century hotel that had been converted into a large house. The doors were always open and inviting. The neighbors next door had a family with ten children while the neighbor across the street had eleven. It wasn't uncommon for the Toth household to have additional kids spending the night or over for a meal. Everyone worked in concert to keep things running smoothly.
In order to support such a large family, both of Dave's parents worked full time. His father was a police officer in their home town and his mom a nurse, who eventually went back to school and got a degree in psychology while raising her family. Having parents who were dedicated to their family as well as working hard at their careers instilled a strong work ethic in their children. Dave had childhood aspirations of becoming a police officer like his father and even studied law enforcement and parks and recreation through college. He often went on ride-alongs with his father and was a police office for a year before getting married and moving to Baltimore.
After relocating to Baltimore, Dave pursued work in law enforcement, however, with the birth of his son decided a different career would be best for his family. He eventually went to work with a brother who had been working at Facchini Construction. Dave had previous construction experience to draw upon from summers working with two older brothers who owned a home improvement business. Starting as a carpenter's helper, Dave quickly learned various aspects of the construction industry and landed at Oak Contracting ten years later as a superintendent. He's worked on various projects during his tenure including the recently completed Center for Business and Graduate Studies at Bowie State University. He notes that one of his most memorable projects was the Suburban Club renovation due to all the high end finishes and additional efforts needed to complete the job.
In addition to building great buildings, Dave is instilling the same great set of values to his family. He and his wife have a sixteen year old son and an eleven year old daughter and have since moved back to PA, near Gettysburg. Dave is currently working with Frederick County Public Schools to finish the additions to Tuscarora High School. Next spring, he will break ground on a complete replacement of Linganore High School, which will open in 2010. Dave's dedication to working hard and his outstanding ability to facilitate teamwork will serve him well as he continues his career in construction.
