Dominick Dunnigan, LEED® AP

Title: Director of Marketing
Email: info@oakcontracting.com

“Balance…it's key to everything.”

Although Dominick Dunnigan was born in Baltimore, he grew up in Harford County where his ancestors lived for generations. With many of his relatives in the engineering and construction industry, he was interested in building as a child and high school student. He recalls a conversation with the father of his date for the fall Homecoming dance one year when asked about his interests. Dominick explained how he dreamed of developing raw land into a community, to which the man responded “Don't buy land. There's no money in real estate!”

Despite this early interest and family history, or because of it, Dominick opted to study another love at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida. He has always enjoyed physics, computer technology, and earned a private pilot license while in school. Dominick's goal was to work on the development of a much-needed air traffic control system for the private sector, a 1970s system still in use today.

However, when Dominick graduated with a B.S. in Aeronautics in 1994, there was no opportunity for air traffic controllers and redevelopment of the system. His employment in the aeronautical industry was limited to a year working for a U.S. Airlines subsidiary as manager of the Baltimore-Washington International Airport fuel farm.

Always intrigued with the stock market although he knew very little about it, Dominick was hired by T. Rowe Price for training as a registered representative in 1996. By the time he left eight years later, he was Assistant Vice President of Institutional Marketing.

After deciding that he wanted to work in a smaller company and travel less, Dominick followed his initial passion of the A/E/C industry and became Director of Marketing and Business Development at Oak Contracting in 2004. He sits on the Board of Directors for the Building Congress & Exchange of Metropolitan Baltimore, Inc. and is actively involved in their Public Relations Committee. Dominick is also an active Professional Affiliate in AIABaltimore and has been an invaluable Design Awards Committee member since 2004, including co-chair in 2007. He is also a board member for the Chesapeake Chapter of the Society for Marketing Professional Services. He enjoys being actively involved in the industry among all the other activities in his life. “Balance…it's key to everything, whether you're raising kids, flying an airplane, or managing a construction project. It's easy to lose sight of the details when focused on the big picture and vice versa. You must maintain balance.”

Dominick's lifelong interest in architecture and construction is exemplified by an old vellum drawing he did in a high school drafting class that he still keeps in his desk. One day he would like to design and build his own house. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family. Dominick and his wife Jeana have four young children and live in Perry Hall.
