Dimitriy Simanovskiy

Title: Estimator

From an early age, Dmitriy had strong aspirations of becoming a construction engineer. Today he's an estimator at Oak Contracting and enjoys the daily challenges of performing material take-offs and helping Owners create realistic budgets for their projects. He predominantly works on K-12 projects, but his experience is quite vast.

Growing up he was surrounded by construction. Dmitriy was born and raised in Belarus during a post-WWII Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic (BSSR), which was in an era of restoration from ruins with the help of other Republics. He was inspired by high-rise construction as he witnessed first hand BSSR's growth into a modern industrialized state. His father was also an inspiration as a construction worker specialized in electrical engineering that, ironically, worked on school projects. His mother was an English and French teacher.

At the age of seventeen, Dmitriy moved to Leningrad (current day St. Petersburg) to attend the Military University of Civil Engineering, where he graduated with a 3.83 GPA honor diploma and minors in structural engineering and computer science. Upon completion, he put his skills to work in Siberia near Lake Baikal, where harsh conditions required special engineering techniques. With temperatures ranging from minus twenty degrees Fahrenheit in the winter to over one hundred degrees in the summer, activities such as pouring concrete required exacting methods. Frequent earthquakes were another challenge. Dmitriy worked on engineering specs for steel frame buildings to resist tremors. The buildings were primarily high-rise residential complexes, which housed military and civilian personnel charged with protecting the border from China.

After two years in Siberia, Dmitriy took an assignment as a Superintendent in Moscow. During his time in Moscow, he worked on seven, fourteen-story high-rise buildings. Following family members that had embarked on opportunities in the United States, Dmitriy left Moscow in 2000 and moved his family to Baltimore. He quickly found work as a Maintenance Supervisor in the hotel industry before moving to a project management position with the Baltimore City Public School System and then to Oak Contracting as an estimator.
